PE & Sports Premium
This is a page on our website dedicated to PE! We will keep you updated with our achievements, results and plans for the subject as well as share how the Sport Premium is being used at Northborough Primary School.
What is the ‘Sport Premium’?
In April 2013 the Government announced new funding of £150 million for Physical Education (PE) and Sport – often referred to as a ‘Sport Premium’. This funding is used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and Sport provision. In the 2019-2020 academic year we received £tbc in funding.
The Sport Premium funding allows the children to engage in regular physical activity, have access to a wide range of sporting activities, increases the amount of competitive sport that can they can play and boosts the confidence and knowledge of the staff in teaching PE and sport. This raises the profile of PE and sport across the school.
Impact of our use of the Sport Premium:
- Higher Participation levels in inter and intra school sport.
- Pupil’s enjoyment of sporting competition.
- Improved physical gains.
- Access to improved resources and higher level coaching.
- Staff confidence and expertise has increased.
- Positive feedback from parents regarding intra school sport.
Current provision
At Northborough Primary School we aim to deliver a curriculum, which is accessible and inclusive to all and that will maximise the development of every child’s ability and achievement in the area of Physical Education. We will strive to provide a variety of sporting activities for fun and enjoyment. Through providing high quality PE lessons and after school clubs, we aim to ensure that all learners develop an understanding and appreciation that sport supports physical and mental well-being.
Northborough School realises and values the benefits of PE and sport to build on your children’s confidence, which will ultimately improve their self-esteem and life experiences. We aim that by creating a vast range of opportunities learners, whatever their ability, can experience and achieve success. We further provide our learners with the chance to take part in competitive games at many different levels, internally and against other local schools.
In addition, Northborough provides expert coaches that deliver a range of Physical Lessons in addition to the class teachers. These sessions are delivered by the Youth Dreams Project- their ethos is to deliver the highest standard of sports coaching, providing opportunities for as many young people as possible. They pride themselves on their passionate delivery and commitment to positively impact the lives of the young people they get the privilege to coach.
